Our Story

GSF Co-Founder Max Song, with mentor Annie Zhou from US China Green Fund
It all started when…
A group of 2017 Schwarzman Scholars (Max Song, Alibek Nurkesh, and Cristopher-Teodor Uglea) discussed organizing an event that will create a catalyst for people to get together and work on a tangible problem. Inspired by the mission of Schwarzman College, to instill a spirit of leadership in addressing global problems, they designed a weekend-long "make-a-thon" that aims at bringing students from across different domains, disciplines, and pair them with mentors with industry experience who could coach and advise them.
Through this event, they engaged with students and alumni from Tsinghua, Peking and other universities in Beijing to work together, and broaden their mindset.
To focus on the attention on issues that matter, five main themes were announced in the first Global Solutions Festival: Digitalization of Employment, Poverty Alleviation, Reforming Education, Healthcare Access, and Environment Protection.
After three weeks of intensive planning, The 2017 Global Solution Festival was launched!
